Nassau Bahamas Cruises
Written by Jeff Heath
Nassau is the sophisticated, charming capital city of the Bahamas located on New
Providence Island. When cruise ships dock at the city's Prince George Wharf, passengers
need only to walk to the end of the pier to arrive in downtown Nassau. Cruise passengers
who have reservations for shore tours depart for their excursions at the end of the pier.
Passengers who decide to see Nassau on their own can visit the Ministry of Tourism booth
located between the pier and the downtown area to pick up local attraction
brochures and walking tour maps. Since cruise ships drop off thousands of tourists at
Prince George Wharf every day, tourists arriving here are often inundated with offers of
taxi tours, horse-drawn carriage tours, and other tourist services.
Nassau Shore Excursions
When deciding what to do in Nassau, cruise passengers need to carefully consider how long
their cruise ship is docked. Many 3 and 4-Day Bahamas cruises allow passengers 16 to 24
hours ashore to enjoy a variety of attractions in Nassau and Paradise Island. The 7-Day
Eastern Caribbean cruises that frequent Nassau only stay about 6 hours and sometimes less.
Since cruise lines make money selling excursions, they offer passengers a variety of
options that are perfectly timed for their cruise. Shore tours and excursions available in
Nassau include the Dolphin Encounter, several snorkeling and scuba options, a Blue Lagoon
Island tour, Nassau historical highlights tours, glass bottom boat tours, pirates of
Nassau, golf, and a harbor cruise to Paradise Island with an aquarium tour that ends at
the Atlantis Casino. Arrangements for shore tours can be made aboard the cruise ship.
